Hexton always surprises people the first time they visit. It is a very well-kept secret and few people in the shooting world know of the deep valleys and wooded hillsides which are more in keeping with Wales or the West Country than Hertfordshire. The Estate actually sits at the start of the Chiltern Hills and within the circle of those in the know is regarded as perhaps the finest high bird pheasant shoot in the Northern Home Counties. The centre of London is less than an hour’s drive away!
This is primarily a Pheasant shoot with a few Partridges, offering 200 to 350 bird days from the beginning of November through to the end of January. Hexton has two separate ‘beats’ and so can provide two back-to-back days shooting if required.
We recommend a maximum of 8 Guns at Hexton as the valleys allow little scope for Back Guns. This ensures that everyone gets a good amount of shooting on each drive. Lunch is taken in the main house, Hexton Manor, and the shoot prides itself on its hospitality so the menus are always excellent!
If you are looking for a shoot within very easy striking distance of London, Hexton should be top of your list.
Wonderful, Local Hospitality
Given that the shoot is within an hour of Central London, most teams go straight there on the morning of the shoot. However, there are a couple of excellent accommodation options nearby; Flitwick Manor and Luton Hoo, hotels are ideal for anyone that wants to stay the night before close by.
